Sand In Our Shoes
July 5 – 20, 2021 Grand Manan Art Gallery 21 Cedar St. Grand Manan, New Brunswick

It is finally happening. After a delay due to Covid-19, the show is going ahead. And I am thrilled that this time it is a collaborative show with artist Helen Shideler.
Over the last few years, we have travelled along the coastline of southwestern New Brunswick on the beautiful Bay of Fundy. And checking tide schedules and wind speeds has become automatic. (yes we have had easels blown over)
Painting by myself is okay but painting en plein air with a buddy is so much better. Certain advantages are obvious, like someone to watch the equipment if we need to run back to the car or find a convenient bush, it feels safer and there are those wonderful conversations that only artists will get.
Anyone watching us on the recent ferry ride from Grand Manan would have thought we were deranged, with all the gestures and pointing as we compared the colours of the water and what was happening with the light and hues in the sky. We are fortunate that in our area there are quite a few artists who will arrange to paint together and show their work together.
And that collaboration is supported online as we chat about what mediums are better, where can we source good canvases, where are the best spots for painting…
The upcoming show will host our work in the main gallery, and in the other two galleries will be Morag Walsh and Kelley-Joyce Floyd It is a delightful variety of styles and sizes.
